Specials Clinical Manufacturing (SCM) is set to unveil two new revolutionary services as it makes its hat-trick of appearances at ICSE this year.
Officially launching its new ‘radiopharma’ and ‘biological’ services, the SCM team will be on hand throughout the three day exhibition in Hall 4.1 stand 41B68 showcasing the company’s portfolio of small-medium scale manufacturing, development, filling and packaging services.
The UK-based company recently received MHRA approval to add radiopharma and biologicals to its already vast array of bespoke contract outsourced solutions, further enhancing its position in the global pharmaceutical, bio and healthcare sectors.
Given the rising costs associated with developing new drugs and bringing them to market and fewer products being licensed each year, SCM’s new radiopharma service will add true value by assisting companies at both pre-clinical and clinical stages of development by offering compounding, handling and filling services for radio-labelled materials.
The benefits of studying radio-labelled compounds, particularly in the pre-clinical phase can be considerable. By reducing the development cycle, costs and lead times can be shortened by early identification of where and how they act in the body and what the drug concentrations are at certain time points. This may allow potentially harmful drugs to be detected and eliminated from the development portfolio at an earlier stage, reducing expenditure on unsuitable drug candidates or identify the most effective candidate.
Commenting, Brian Dougherty chairman of SCM, said: “Since the company’s inception, we have prided ourselves on our revolutionary approach to clinical manufacturing by offering companies of all sizes and values, the opportunity to develop and trial drugs, using our specialist expertise, and then seeing them through to commercialisation.
“By offering radiopharma we further establish our status as a Centre for Excellence and most importantly, provide our clients with additional services that will add value to their business.”
The launch of company’s new biologicals service has emerged as a result of the significant growth in the development of biological molecules for human medicinal use over the past 5 – 10 years. As traditional small molecule ‘blockbuster’ drugs are becoming harder to identify and scientists’ understanding of how drugs work at a molecular level within the body, has increased, the company has recognised the importance of offering aseptic filling using isolator technology.
As such, within the past month, SCM has developed the infrastructure and up-skilled a number of its staff members to offer biological filling. The use of sealed gas isolators provide the highest form of protection for aseptic products and has shown also to provide a higher level of sterility assurance than traditional aseptic process filling.
Its ongoing success and the launch of its new services mark the start of an exciting era for SCM and its clients. Take the opportunity to meet the SCM team at ICSE Hall 4.1 stand 41B68 to find out more and don’t miss Brian Dougherty at the Speakers Corner at 3.30pm, Wednesday 1st October.
