SCM Pharma and its innovative work with Glide Pharma has been showcased in a global promotional campaign spearheaded by Regional Development Agency One NorthEast (ONE) as part of the latest phase of its ‘Passionate people. Passionate places’ campaign.
ONE’s award-winning initiative, which promotes North East England’s business strengths around the world, showcases the partnership between SCM and Glide Pharma in developing a revolutionary new way of injecting medication without a needle.
Working together with SCM, Glide Pharma could soon offer a cost-effective and easy-to-use delivery system for worldwide vaccination programmes as well as addressing the fear of needles that affects more than 10% of the world’s population.
Co-owner and director of SCM Pharma, Fiona Cruickshank, is as an ambassador for the awareness campaign, which has a strong focus on doing business in North East England. The £3m overall campaign includes a series of advertisements in renowned newspapers, including The FT and The Times, targeting businesses on an international stage.
Fiona said: “Being involved in such a high-profile campaign is great for both SCM and Glide. We are delighted to be highlighting innovation from North East England and ultimately helping Glide deliver pioneering healthcare solutions for the future.”
Now in its fourth year, ONE’s successful campaign has reached millions of people across the world and has changed perceptions with over half the people who have seen the advertising now willing to speak highly of the North East.
SCM has worked with Glide Pharma for a number of years, helping perfect its patented needle-free, solid dose injection technology – the Glide SDI™ – which promises to be much less invasive than traditional injection methods.
The Glide SDITM offers a safe, convenient and easy-to-use alternative to traditional injections. With the potential to avoid refrigeration, the Glide SDI is also easier and cheaper to transport and store. In addition, as the drug or vaccine is pushed into the skin, and not fired as with other needle-free technologies, the Glide SDI ensures accurate, reproducible dosing.
SCM has been heavily involved in the process development and validation for the drug product, which will eventually be adapted to a huge range of injectable products, encompassing small molecules and biologicals, including vaccines.
